About the School

The school of Life Sciences was established in November, 2014. It was together with School of physical science under the former school of physical and Life Sciences. Lemon green is the official colour of the school. 


The School of Life Sciences consists of four (4) Departments; Animal Biology, Plant Biology, Biochemistry and Microbiology.

The Departments in the School of Life Sciences offer Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech.) degrees in the following subject areas and applied options (where available):

  • Animal Biology Department
  • Plant Biology Department 
  • Biochemistry Department
  • Microbiology Department

Students in the School of Life sciences are also required to participate in the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) for a period of six (6) month during the second semester of their 400 level study.

Vision: The School of Life Sciences strives to become Centre of excellence, recognized nationally and internationally for its teaching and research with emphasis on applied aspects of Biological as related to Medicine, Pharmacy, Parasitology, Virology and Immunology.

Mission: The School of Life Sciences will provide conducive environment for the training of Life Scientists with sufficient expertise to serve in relevant areas of the national economy such as biotechnology, strategic research, and natural products development.

External Linkages/Collaboration
(i) Department of Biological Sciences is into Research Collaboration, Students and Staff Exchange Programmes with University of Mississippi, USA.

(ii) The School has signed MOU with University of Johannesburg in South Africa and Michigan State University, USA
