Dr Duro Damisa was born on 14th September 1966. He attended St. Peters School, Ikuohi-Ihima from 1973 to 1979 and thereafter proceeded to Ihima Community Secondary School, Ihima for his high school between 1979 and 1984. He attended the SBS Zaria between 1984 and 1985 and was admitted into the Faculty of Science of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria to read Microbiology between 1985 and 1988. He graduated as the best student in the Department in that year. After the compulsory NYSC program, which he participated in between 1988 and 1989 in Commercial Secondary School, Beteriko-Boki in Cross River State, he took up appointment as an Assistant Lecturer with Kaduna Polytechnic in the Department of Applied Sciences. He obtained his MSc and PhD from ABU Zaria in 1997 and 2007 respectively in the field of Food and Industrial Microbiology. He rose to become the coordinator of the Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) of the Polytechnic and a Principal Lecturer in 2009. After his stint in the polytechnic, he transferred his services to the Federal University of Technology Minna in 2011 as a Senior Lecturer and he became the Head of Department in April 2012. He became an Associate Professor of Microbiology in 2013 and has been working tirelessly providing leadership for the Department. He has published in many local and international journals and as a consultant to ECOWAS on Education matters. He has attended local and international conferences. Dr Damisa is happily married and has a daughter.

The Department of Microbiology is structured as a centre of academic excellence and a reference point for teaching and training high calibre practically oriented, high motivated, self-employable and enterprising graduates for public and private organizations, businesses and industries for national development and the world at large.


To train Microbiologists who will provide the man power requirement for industries, self-employment and employ other people through expertise in the theoretical and practical work in Microbiology and Biotechnology.
